High-availability ATA drive arrays

The newest addition to the Avid local storage family, Avid VideoRAID RTR320 and RTR320X disk arrays deliver superb performance—up to dual-stream uncompressed HD—with fail-safe RAID protection. Available in high-capacity 5- and 10-drive configurations with an Ultra320 SCSI interface, Avid VideoRAID arrays continue to operate at full performance, and without loss of data, should a drive fail within the unit.

Self-contained SCSI drives

Standalone Ultra320 SCSI MediaDrive rS units can be rackmounted or stacked and are available in capacities from 73 GB to 300 GB. These drives feature exclusive QuietDrive™ technology, advanced thermal protection, rugged design, and self-contained power supplies.

High-capacity removable SCSI drive arrays

The Avid MediaDock Ultra320 features twelve removable Ultra320 SCSI drives in a rugged, rack-mount enclosure. The superior 10K drive performance supports all resolutions, including dual-stream uncompressed HD or any Avid DNxHD™ media. The 12-drive array stores up to 3.6 TB in 2U rack space.

Compact removable SCSI chassis


The Avid MediaDock 2+ features a rack-mountable, 2U chassis that houses two removable 36, 73, 146, or 180 GB MediaDock™ LVD shuttle drives.

High-throughput Fibre Channel arrays


High-performance Avid MEDIArray™ II Fibre Channel arrays feature a 14-bay 3U rack-unit chassis that supports up to 2 TB of storage and 2-Gb data rates. The heavy duty, fault-tolerant design includes hot-swappable, dual-redundant power supplies and advanced cooling modules. Supported as local storage with most Avid applications; also supported as shared storage with Avid Unity™ MediaNetwork (v3.0 and higher) or as add-on to Avid Unity LANshare EX systems.

High-bandwidth Avid Unity MediaNetwork and Avid Unity for News systems handle compressed and uncompressed media in real time, while enabling editing, finishing, audio, and graphics work to take place simultaneously—using the same media files—in a shared workspace. Both systems rely on the modular MEDIArray™ XT storage system for enhanced diagnostics and failover capabilities. The Avid Unity ISIS (Infinitely Scalable Intelligent Storage) media network combines the highly scalable Avid Unity ISIS architecture and 64-bit file system with the innovative Avid ISIS Engine with built-in Ethernet switching. Together, they offer guaranteed support for up to 330 clients with simultaneous access to as much as 192 terabytes of storage today, with substantial expansion possibilities in the future. Avid Unity ISIS systems provide facility-wide access to media with seven layers of system redundancy; powerful yet simple management tools; and an open architecture that supports both Avid and non-Avid clients. With highly efficient and reliable delivery and massive storage capacity, plus self-healing technology in the event of a drive failure, the Avid Unity ISIS media network is designed for the most demanding post and broadcast production environments.

Running on standard Gigabit Ethernet technology, Avid Unity ISIS systems expand the potential of any media enterprise with facility-wide uninterrupted access to media; powerful yet simple management tools; and an open architecture that supports both Avid and non-Avid clients in a range of mission-critical environments, including:

 

  • Broadcast and media production environments that must support large numbers of end users in real time, with the highest reliability and availability
  • High-quality, high-pressure SD and Avid DNxHD editing and finishing (all formats up to 145 Mb/sec.) for collaborative projects such as “reality TV” and special events coverage
  • Educational media labs that need to accommodate and administrate increasing student demand and expanding curricula

The highly scalable, self-balancing, distributed architecture of the Avid Unity ISIS system offers practically unlimited potential for growth: when you add capacity, you add intelligent processing power. The Avid Unity ISIS file system can expand from 8 TB to 192 TB with four-dimensional scalability:

  • Capacity. Simply attach additional Avid Unity ISIS Engines and the file system automatically load-balances all of the storage blades without interrupting operations.
  • Clients. Avid Unity ISIS media networks can accommodate up to 330 real-time clients, up to 1,000 user accounts.
  • Performance. Scale bandwidth to deliver real-time SD and Avid DNxHD media, with higher bandwidth support planned for future release.
  • Reliability. Redundant storage and connectivity ensure continued availability, while self-healing drive blades instantly redistribute data in case of a drive failure.

Innovative engineering for absolute reliability

The Avid ISIS Engine is a unique blade-based storage subsystem that features intelligent dual-drive storage elements, integrated Ethernet switching, and redundant power and cooling. Built-in system-wide health monitoring signals any point of failure. Avid ISIS Engines, storage blades, switch blades, and power/cooling modules can be easily added, removed, or hot-swapped while the system is live. The system automatically adapts to component failures and replacements - while work continues without delay.

Unlike common storage area networks (SANs) the advanced Avid ISIS architecture distributes data and metadata so that each intelligent storage element can make instant decisions that collectively optimize the performance, capacity, and health of the entire system. Complementary redundancy across all components provides an unprecedented seven layers of protection for uninterrupted availability and absolute reliability in high-pressure broadcast, post, or film production environments.
